APA Format – Citing Events & Interactions

Home >Communication Basics >Citation & Style Guides >APA Style >APA Format – Citing Events & Interactions

When citing events and personal communications in APA format, provide enough detail for the reader to locate the source or understand its context. For conferences and webinars, include the presenter(s), year, title of the presentation or webinar in italics, type of contribution or format in brackets, the name of the conference or hosting website, location if applicable, and a URL if available. For interviews that are part of a published work, cite the interviewee, year, month, day, title of the interview in italics, interviewer, and source details, including the URL.

Personal communications, such as emails, letters, and private messages, are cited only within the text and include the communicator’s initials and last name, the words “personal communication,” and the date. These citations are not included in the reference list as they do not provide recoverable data.
