APA Format – Citing Digital Sources

Home >Communication Basics >Citation & Style Guides >APA Style >APA Format – Citing Digital Sources

When you cite digital sources in APA format, provide enough key information to ensure the source can be easily located by your readers. This typically includes the author’s name, the publication date, the title of the work in italics, a description of the format in brackets if necessary, and the URL. When citing websites and online articles, include the exact date (year, month, day) if available. For sources such as ebooks and online videos, include the publisher or website name.

If the author is unknown, move the title to the author position. For personal communications like emails, citation details are usually noted in the text only. The goal is to provide a clear, consistent reference that allows readers to retrieve the original source efficiently.
